Military Service Member Fostering Information

Our "Foster Home" program was created to help a military service member who has not been able to find a family member/friend to care for their beloved pet(s) prior to deployment, so they can enter deployment without concerns for their pet's welfare and know their beloved pet(s) will be waiting for them to return safely home.

This program is available to all branches of service and domestic pets throughout our country.  Based on the number of potential foster homes available we may need to foster the pet in another part of your state or in another state as close to where the pet owner and their pets are located.

Military service members needing a temporary foster home for their beloved pet(s) on an emergency hardship will be addressed on a case-by-case basis and available resources.  Please call (501) 760-3875 for assistance

Please submit pet's information at least 60 days prior to anticipated deployment date when possible.  The more time we have the better we will be able to assist you.

We require the following:

  • The preparation and submission of our "Military Service Member Pet Profile" document (available below)

  • Submit pictures of your pet to militarypetprofile@guardianangelsforsoldierspet.org

  • Current medical records for your pet including a documented date of rabies vaccination as well as annual inoculation dates

  • The pet is spayed/neutered before the pet is brought to the foster home

  • Arrangements made with the pet's vet or the foster home caregiver's vet in regards to any pet care billing arrangements

  • Assist with food expense

  • Provide copies to the foster home of the pet(s) veterinarian records which should include "Veterinary Certificate of Health", Vaccination certificate.  If your pet is feline, then the FIV Test certificate needs to be provided in addition to the above documentation.

During the time your pet is fostered in a GASP "Approved Foster Home" in states where we have an "affiliated chapter" or "state volunteer director" we work with the foster home to ensure the pet remains in a caring, loving, and safe home environment.  We ask all fosters to maintain a communication link (via snail mail and/or email) with the pet owner during the foster term.
